The Commissioner of Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, Dr Felix Abali has asked for the establishment of an Accident Intervention Fund for the Bureau.

He stated this during the visit of the Senate Committee on Aviation to the aviation industry. Abali explained that the fund is very crucial to the industry.

Abali using Malaysia Airlines as an example said that the Airline was able to survive despite two successive crashes, because the country has an Accident Intervention Fund.

He stated that if it were to be in Nigeria without such fund, the airline would have collapsed.

He noted that the Commission needs more money from the Ticket Sales Charge, TSC to carry out some of its projects, saying that the 3 percent given to the Commission from TSC is inadequate to carry out its responsibilities effectively.
