Air Peace Flight Skids Off Port Harcourt’s Runway

An Air Peace B737 aircraft with registration number 5N-BRN with 94 passengers and six crew flying from Abuja to Port Harcourt, Saturday, skidded off the Port Harcourt Airport runway.

The Accident Investigation Bureau,(AIB Nigeria that confirmed the incident said that it has been notified .

According to AIB, the aircraft skidded off the Runway to the left about 1300m from the Runway 21 threshold at the Port Harcourt International airport, adding that all the passengers and crew have been evacuated safely. It added that it has dispatched investigators who are on their way to  the site.

 A statement issued by the General Manger , Corporate Affairs, (FAAN), Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, stated that the flight skidded off the Port Harcourt International Airport runway at about 1500hours.
It also added that the incident occurred during a heavy downpour at the airport.
FAAN disclosed  that there were no casualties however, as all  the passengers and crew on board the flight were safely evacuated.
“The runway is already been cleared by the Authority so that normal flight operations can continue,” FAAN said in the statement.
