Chairman of the plant, Mr. Tony Elemelu said the nation had the fixing of its electricity supply as its most critical agenda and that the Ughelli power plant could generate more than a quarter of the nation’s power supply.

He added that the capacity of the plant was at about a thousand megawatts but that at the end of the year, a full capacity of 1,000 was certain.

‘Nigeria is currently generating 3,000 or something, less than 4,000. If it’s 4,000 and we are already doing 1,000, that is already 25%’.

According to Omotayo Dairo, Chief Executive Officer of Quintas Renewable Energy Solutions Limited, he said that only 44% of the nation’s 170 million populace had access to electricity from the national grid.

He also added that the economy should be private-sector led as Nigerians were feeling the harsh economy and that more focus should be placed on the 56% of the Nigerians who lacked power supply.
