No Comments Share:
In a prayer and peaceful protest , thousands of Catholic faithfuls nationwide have demanded for inquiries and explanation into the recent killings of its faithfuls in Benue State. The protest also was met with a mixture of condemnation and pleas for restraints.

Holding banners reading ,” life is sacred protect it , bring the killers to justice , give our youths jobs not guns “, etc , the protest took place across the states of the nation ,notably Abuja , Lagos , Edo, Oyo, Benue, Lagos, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Kwara states .

The protest coincided with the burial of the people killed ,  two priests and 17 worshippers by suspected herdsmen at a Catholic church in Benue State on April 24  during a church service
Speaking on this development , the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins, said the protest is in line with the directive from the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria.

Observing that the protest was for catholic members to partake in the exercise in supplication to God , he added that it was also in solidarity with those killed in Benue.

“The church decried deep displeasure over the incessant killings and general insecurity being exprienced across the length and breadth of our dear country”.

“Mr President, it is time for you to act fast and put to rest all the insinuations being pandered all over about you. We reiterate that our call for your urgent intervention is borne out of our deep patrotism and desire to save the country from imminent crisis that could snowball into ethnic, tribal or religious war.”
