The Lagos State Governor, Mr, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended MTN Nigeria for its massive and continuous investment in the education sector, urging other private companies to emulate the organisation’s gesture.

The commendation was made  at the MTN Foundation Award Ceremony and Scholarship Alumni Induction at the Shell Hall, Muson Centre Onikan, Lagos, where the Governor emphasised that one of the avenues for sustainable development across the globe is through human capacity development .

The Governor, who was represented at the occasion by the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals and Investment, Mrs. Solape Hammond restated the need to pay more attention to the education sector as it remains the most potent catalyst for a sustainable future.

He said, “Beneficiaries of this kind gesture are potential leaders who will contribute to the progress and development of the society and humanity in general. As believers in the potent power of education and stakeholders in the future development of our country, we must emulate this kind gesture of MTN by  ensuring that no child is denied access to education as a result of his or her background”.

Sanwo-Olu maintained that the emerging reality of the 21st Century is evident in the pervasive nature of technology and innovation in a digital economy, which is an indication that prosperity will be defined not only by natural resources but the amount and quality of knowledge possessed by citizens.

While congratulating the 2019 Alumni Set, Sanwo-Olu encouraged them to imbibe the philosophy of assisting those who are financially challenged to acquire quality education, admonishing the set members to remain  good ambassadors of the MTN Foundation.

He applauded the communication giant which has given out 8,000 scholarships worth over N1.6billion to deserving students in various institutions across the country, stressing that the gesture is indeed a step beyond corporate social responsibility but also a commitment to promote sustainable human development and decent future for this generation and beyond.
