Chevron has indicated commitment to key into federal governments master plan.

As a way of curbing incessant militants attack on oil infrastructure, the company said that it will give priority to enhancement of human capital development.

Regular attack on oil pipeline operated by foreign oil firms in the Niger Delta region by militants have considerably contributed to the economic recession in Nigeria.

Chief Executive Officer of the American oil firm, Clay Neff, promised new focus on human capital development in Nigeria.

The company intends to tie the initiative to its Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU.

Mr. Neff further assured that Chevron is highly committed to take ahead government’s Gas Master Plan initiative.

The latest move would contribute highly to the communities, providing them with a more significant role in managing their own development via the regional councils for the same.

“Chevron takes its role as a corporate citizen in Nigeria seriously and is active in many projects that promote health, education, and economic development,” said Neff.

Chevrons GMoU has invested around ‎₦17 billion on nearly 600 programs and projects that have given rise to nearly 40,000 scholarships and new educational institutions.

Apart from the educational sector, the GMoU also bolsters the infrastructure, housing, agriculture development and medical supplies.

“A focused investment in gas is another way of tackling our realities. We have been providing high quality gas to the domestic market for increasing energy demand and power generation. We will continue to do so and support the Government’s Gas Master Plan,” stated Mr. Neff.

Considering the latest move by Chevron, we think that the Nigerian communities may get rid of the economic dearth soon.

This also shows that the foreign firms operating in the Delta do make efforts for the community, as perceived by the militants, he said.
