The war against piracy was brought to a new level as some major movie markets in the country which include Balogun, Idumota and some parts of the South-West region such as Ogun and Osun were raided by the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB). Some culprits were apprehended and arrested.

Mr. Joseph Ejike, Head of Monitoring and Enforcement of NFVCB said the exercise was part of an ongoing plan by the board to prevent the sales of uncensored films in the market which include pirated and pornographic movies. Some of the shops have been closed down and the owners awaiting court charges.

Meanwhile, one of the traders at Idumota Market disclosed he wasn’t aware of any law regulating the sales of movies.

‘We have a union called Music Advertising of Nigeria (MAN) and that’s where we all belong to. If they had enlightened us about the law and licensing, then we would have all adhered strictly to it’, he said.
