The Lagos State Fire Service has cautioned members of the public to exercise discipline in the handling of flammable materials to curtail high incidents of inferno in the State, saying that 23 fire outbreaks were reported within the past week

The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasak Fadipe, who led the firefighters to combat the fire outbreak at the Olusosun Dumpsite in Ojota, Lagos recently revealed that the Command Control Unit got a distress call at about 4 pm, explaining that the unfortunate incident resulted from the release of trapped methane gas generated from decomposition of refuse at the location.

Fadipe said men of the Lagos State Fire Service deployed the recently acquired state-of-the-art firefighting equipment to quell the inferno after an intense 10-hour operation, assuring that the command will always respond promptly to distress calls to prevent loss of lives and property across the State.

He urged residents to always pay attention to instructions and guidelines that will avert the threat posed by the mishandling of cooking gas and other flammable liquids as outbreaks always leave in their trail enormous material damage, injury to persons and disruption of economic and social life.

“Some of the fire cases are mostly caused by negligence on the part of those who use it and people mostly use fire the way it should not be used or handled, they do not respect the laws put in place to guide the use and management of fire in various places thus the reason for incessant outbreaks”, Fadipe stated.

While noting that Fire Officers as First Responders to emergency and incident management have been empowered and equipped to tackle any form of natural and man-made incidents, he expressed gratitude to all other emergency stakeholders that have provided support for Firemen in Lagos during fire outbreaks across the State.
