The Medical Guild has assured that JOHESU’s strike will not affect any hospital or health centre under  Lagos state government. The Guild observed  that they are open and functioning despite the JOHESU strike.

To this effect, the Guild plans to set up a committee to liaise with Medical Directors to ensure that all areas of operations are open.

This is part of resolution in a communiqué at the Guild’s recent ordinary general meeting in Lagos.

Observing that the word” Consultant” in a hospital refers only to a specialist medical practitioner of high ranking who is an expert in his/her field , the association rejected the position of Consultant pharmacist .

They observed that the conferment of the status of Consultant to any health worker apart from Medical Directors will lead to chaos and anarchy in the Health Sector.

” It will also adversely affect patient care and indeed promote widespread quackery in the State. In addition, the conferment of the status of Director on the Medical Laboratory Scientists and Radiographers will lead to turmoil and confusion in the system.”

 The communiqué also noted that the association rejects any attempt to distort the algorithm in hierarchy in the pathology department of the State hospitals.

” We will not accept a situation in which medical laboratory scientist will be allowed to function independently of pathologists.”

” The association is vehemently opposed to the appointment of a non-medically qualified person as the Permanent Secretary of the State Health Service Commission, as this is stated clearly in the Health Sector Reform Law 2006 setting up the Commission. The Government should take steps to correct this irregularity.”

The association however , called on the authorities to ensure that members of the Guild receive training due to them.
