Ecobank Nigeria’s employees and management have again displayed their social conscience, care and commitment to their local communities by giving up their free time in aid of orphanages in Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu and Abuja. Their activities, on Ecobank’s ‘Support for Orphanages in Africa’ Day resulted in given out of food and household items to select orphanages. The staff also spent good time with the children of the Homes. 

Ecobank Day was celebrated simultaneously over the weekend in all of the 33 African countries where Ecobank is present. This year’s event, the 6th in the series of the annual Ecobank Day had an internal initiative where the bank’s employees were encouraged to turn their attentions from just servicing customer needs towards their local community. The theme for event is “Supporting Young Lives – it’s your day to make a difference”

Ecobank Nigeria’s Managing Director, Patrick Akinwuntan, spoke of how important it is for businesses and their staff to give back to their local communities: “There were 52 million African orphans aged under 18 in 2017 according to UNICEF, and I am so pleased that we at Ecobank Nigeria demonstrated our compassion for orphans. I was particularly delighted that we were able to “directly touch the children life with the provision were took along, spent time with them and actually be part of their lives within the short time we were with them”.

Mr Akinwunatan, who was guest at the Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care and Treatment Home said the bank decided to support the school because of their “several accomplishments, year on year catering for deprived people, to make them more useful to the society. We thank them for the good work. And it was for that reason we choose to mark our 6^thEcobank Day with them”.

“I applaud the staff who “have given up their time to be here to support these activities. I’m sure you will agree this shows how strongly we all feel about giving back to our local communities. It makes me very proud of both the Bank I represent and the lifeblood – our staff”.

Last year Ecobank Day was devoted to ‘Safe Water, Healthy Living’ and Ecobank nigeria’s activities resulted in the provision of portable water and sanitation material for select schools across the six geopolitical zone of the country.
