Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2019 scientific week held in Lagos on Thursday, she cautioned that sale of drugs by people who do not have formal training as professionals or sub-professionals would only worsen the incidence of easy access to drugs with dire consequences.

She said this would invariably increase drug misuse, abuse as well as drug faking, which, she said, would combine to devalue the Gross Domestic Product and potential of the pharmaceutical sector.

She added, “One of the sore points in drug distribution remains patent medicine vending in our clime. While we appreciate that there is an obvious dearth in all health services including pharma services and manpower, it appears as usual the Federal Ministry of Health through the powers that be is only interested in tackling the challenges in pharma sector probably because of the commercial propensities associated with pharmacy practice.”
