The Commissioner, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Belinda Odeneye, commended the organisers, noting that the workshop was timely and aimed at achieving the objectives of the THEMES Agenda of the present administration.

She emphasised the need to properly dispose of used oil saying, “Waste oil and oil that has been used require proper recycling or disposal to avoid creating an environmental problem and subsequent health risks. Holistic management of waste oil is mandatory and must be imbibed by all users of these oils in order to avoid its attendant dangers on our lives. The consequences of exposure would manifest negatively over the next 10-20 years if we do not adjust our ways of life by safely handling waste oil”, she asserted.

Odeneye advised all the participants to take critical steps in making the environment clean and healthy for the residents in line with the policy thrust of the present administration on Environment.

Earlier, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe expressed the readiness of her agency to partner with stakeholders to ensure proper management, storage and disposal of waste oil and called on the formal and informal sectors to adopt the new practices in the management of used oil so as to protect the environment.

The LASEPA boss revealed that the sensitisation embarked upon by her agency to encourage proper management and handling of waste oil releases are yielding positive results, as such, she urged more operators to get accreditation and comply with all regulations guiding the practice for a more friendly and sustainable environment.
