The Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Wahab Alawiye-King says the State will soon employ a technological-driven template to drive it’s educational system.

As was published in  VON,  Alawiye-King says he will allow the Education Board to achieve it’s vision of providing quality education for all the children within the school age across the State.

At an interactive session with the Head teachers of the public primary schools in Lagos State, the executive chairman and board members took turns to engage the Head teachers with a charge to be more diligent and committed.

The SUBEB Chairman while addressing the gathering, said the need to be technologically compliant to address some pertinent issues around education sector and improve it’s dwindling status.

“We are trying to apply a new technology now to monitor the teachers, right from the managers office. We can know what teachers are doing with the new technology that is coming up and this will come very soon,” he said.

He maintained that the State government prioritises conducive learning atmosphere and would accept nothing less to provide a well managed basic education.

According to him; “We are here to work for the progress of Lagos education because we see you as critical and relevant stakeholders and we think it is germane to seek for your cooperation and support and I think it is necessary to set some ground rules so that we will be guided with our actions and the way we operate hence forth.

This meeting is more or less like a “listening meeting”, so that the the issue they are raised will form path of our short and long term policies. They are the grassroots manager of our school and we must hear from them to rub minds on how we can do better.”

He however urged ”the Head teachers to continually cooperate and support the new board, as he assured of exposing them to more training to get them going professionally.”

On the issue of the increase in the population of children out of school, Alawiye-king stressed that the mantra “leave no child behind” campaign by the board is to ensure that the school children are in school during the term time to enable them have access to quality Education.”

He said; “When you invest so much in education, the learning outcomes must yieild result. That is why we are trying to apply qualitative approach to achieve qualitative education.”

A board member, Adebayo Adefuye said that the new board would restore the honor hitherto bestowed on teachers with the high level of conversations and cross-vertalisation of ideas periodically.

According to him, 21st century education demands employment of Hi-Tech measures in other to make learning easier and more interesting and Lagos State will not be an exception.

“We want to bring the respectability back into the profession. It is not by fighting for bigger pay, more benefits or more running costs, we must justify any increase we are fighting for,” Adefuye said.

Another board member, Dr. Saheed Ibikunle mentioned that every teacher is a critical stakeholders in the development of the education and the purpose of the meeting was to remind the head teachers on how to improve the education.

Dr Ibikunle said; “The real essence of any education system is to provide quality education which can only be achieved with leaders with knowledge. As an individual we are doing the needful, but we can do better. The head teachers have the knowledge and experience to improve the education, and there is a need to address the issue of dwindling in the strength of the educational system.”

Dr Ibikunle admonished the Head teachers to use the opportunity of the forum to galvanise a new ways of doing things by exhibiting leadership qualities at all time.

He highlighted some of the behaviors expected of them to include School instruction attitude, learning organisational operations, ensuring collaborative partnership and consistent allocation of resources.

Others board members who spoke at the event enjoined the participants at the meeting to be rest assured that the State quality assurance would not witch-hunt anyone, but to assist for a better performance.

They urged them to pay attention to details and be more responsible in the discharge of their duties as the board expect them to be more efficient in whatever they do.

Meanwhile, some of the participants commended the move by the board to address some grey areas and improve the standard of basic education in the state, as they promised to extend hands of fellowship to the board.
