Capt Dung Pam says there is need for organizations within and outside Nigeria’s aviation industry to embrace kinds of insurance cover that can protect their employees’ volume of mental devastation in situations of pandemic such as covid19.

Speaking at an ART webinar with the theme, Covid19: The Implications For Nigeria’s Aviation Professionals During and Post Covid, Capt Pam said “there is need for companies in Nigeria to learn from organizations in countries like UK as regards workers’ welfare by consulting insurance organizations and identifying opportunities that can reduce staff mental devastation in cases like this. Airlines for instance, have a lot of complex costs and employees are at the receiving end in times like this.”

Pam further said “there is need for packages such as Loss Of Earnings Insurance meant for Organizations. There is also Business Interruption Insurance in case of uncertainties like covid19. Airlines and other organizations should take advantage of such opportunities.”

He said effects of covid on employees depend on the value placed on staff by employers. He cited UK-based Virgin Atlantic Airline which during the economic meltdown of the last decade, downsized their aircraft fleet, rather than downsizing workforce, most of who enjoyed various benefits.
