The Executive Secretary of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Dr. Chioma Ejikeme says “pension management in Nigeria is a very sensitive issue, and PTAD has been at the forefront since inception, ensuring that the welfare of pensioners under the defined benefit scheme remains a priority.”

Speaking at a one day training workshop for pension correspondents held on Monday in Lagos, Ejikeme, represented by Kabiru Yusuf a Director, explained what has been the focus of the department, to straighten and clear the dirt road of the defined benefits administration, and content that this has been largely achieved.

She said commitment to change the narrative of pension administration in Nigeria especially under the defined benefits scheme is unwavering and that “PTAD has worked assiduously to change the narrative.”

According to her, “It is very important, as reporters, to understand where we are coming from, where we are headed, and what exactly we do, so you can report accurately.”

She admits that the media has a role and PTAD relies on that to ensure that its pension mandate is fulfilled. Optimistic about the “already-robust relationship between PTAD and the media,” she said this would correct all misrepresentations and also inform the pensioners “of next steps we intend to take as we work hard to ensure that the welfare of our pensioners is sustained.”
