The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has noted that the manufacturers can only be making progress on production if only the government  reduces the cost of production by ensuring a uninterrupted and affordable power supply for players in the manufacturing industry.

The MAN president, Otunba Francis Meshioye, made this statement on Thursday while addressing the newsmen on the forthcoming Manufacturers Energy Security Summit in Lagos. He stated that the theme of the summit is “Energy Adequacy for Industrial Growth.”

Meshioye stated that the summit will expose the government and industry players to the latest technologies, innovations, and trends in the energy sector. It will also serve as a platform for manufacturers and other stakeholders to discuss and explore sustainable solutions that will ensure energy security and promote industrial growth in Nigeria.

He stated that energy plays a crucial role in industrial growth and economic development, adding that adequate energy supply is a fundamental requirement for the smooth operation of industries. It is essential for achieving sustainable growth and maintaining competitiveness in the global market.

The Managing Director of the Manufacturers Power Development Company (MPDC), Oweh Mbah-Sam, advocated for support to be provided to members, particularly through capacity building. He stressed the importance of exposing manufacturers to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in manufacturing, green manufacturing, smart manufacturing, and zero-waste manufacturing. These technologies, he argued, will make life much easier for players in the sector.

He also urged manufacturers to be more energy-efficient and to consider the efficiency and eco-friendliness of the equipment they purchase.
