An early morning fire swept through a Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) office in Abuja on Saturday, December 20, 2025, triggering a swift emergency response that successfully prevented a wider disaster.
The incident occurred at the FIRS facility located at No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, where flames broke out on the fourth floor of the building.
According to a statement issued by Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, the fire was quickly detected and initially tackled by security personnel on duty.
Their prompt action, reinforced by the rapid intervention of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service and other emergency responders, ensured that the blaze was brought under control before it could spread to other parts of the building.
Authorities confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident, though several offices on the affected floor sustained damage. Investigations into the cause of the fire have already begun, with preliminary findings suggesting a possible electrical fault.
Meanwhile, the Service has commenced a comprehensive review of its internal safety measures, with assurances that protocols will be strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
