Enugwu-Agidi Youth , Women Reject Onuorah , Vow To Elect Pius Nwankwo As PG
As Enugwu-Agidi prepares for the December 29, 2025 town union election, the youth and women have vowed to vote for the Director of Information and Communication Technology in INEC, Chief engineer Pius Nwankwo as their new President General.
The natives at village to village campaign for the forthcoming election, rejected Mr Chukwuebuka Onuorah who was seeking reelection, arguing that he lacked credibility and sincerity to lead the agrarian community for the next three years.
It would be recalled that the agrarian community has been in turmoil over leadership crisis for the past three years with accusations and counter accusations from all quarters, resulting in alleged impeachment of their incumbent President General of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU-NIGERIA), Mr Chukwuebuka Onuorah.
Onuorah was removed in office earlier this month following his attempt to reschedule their election to December 16, 2025 as against December 29th stipulated in the Constitution of EBU-NIGERIA but was later reinstated as the State government intervened and called for a truce, which included returning the date for the poll to 29th.
The contenders for the town union poll are from the same Etiti Village, one of the 9 villages in Enugwu-Agidi where the position was equally zoned to. The two kinsmen, Chief Pius Nwankwo, a Director of Information and Communication with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Mr Chukwuebuka Onuorah, a realtor, have their lined ups for other vacant positions.
The winning executive is expected to lead EBU-NIGERIA for the next three years. Consequent upon this, supporters of both contenders are returning from all parts of the country to join in the election, even as those already in the village were seen on Saturday moving from one village to another with live bands to mobilise voters.
Speaking to the newsmen, the top contender, Chief Pius Nwankwo assured of his readiness to serve given to his academic qualifications, leadership skills and experiences.
Nwankwo, while noting that he would run an open door policy, explained that all members of his executive would be allowed to function just as various committees and structures such as land committee would be empowered to work without fear or favour.
He further maintained that his tenure would neither engage nor support land grabbing and other illegalities the current town union executive was accused of.
The incumbent, Mr Chukwuebuka Onuorah also said he was confident in winning the election given to his achievements in office and commitment to a free and fair poll.
But most members of the community, spotted with placards of different inscriptions during a village to village rally, are kicking that Onuorah must be voted out, alleging that his administration violated their rights by engaging in land issues, allowing supporters to disrupt burials, walking with thugs, among others.
Some of them, including the Deputy Presidential candidate, Mr Emeka Ementa expressed happiness over the choice of Nwankwo, assuring that he would never compromise or abuse power when elected.
On his part, the son of the late Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Prince Chinedu Ikeanyi, argued that their community has been in bondage for three years and they would love to reclaim it through democratic process which is an election.
“This is a call for a liberation for people of Enugwu-Agidi from bondage of bad leadership and highjackers of destiny. Chief Pius Nwankwo is the most qualified person for that task. He is the most qualified with sound moral background and education, and he has added many values in our community already without been a leader,” he added.
Other stakeholders from Enugwu-Agidi, including Chief Jude Chikelu, Mr Richard Nwankwo claimed that the election would enable them to get liberated from high-handedness, authoritarian and other malliase experienced in the past due to qualifications the top contender.
