Celebrating Excellence: UNIZIK Alumnus Jude Amechi Nnaka Awarded Prestigious PhD Scholarship at Wayne State University, Transitioning from BSc Anatomy to PhD in Anatomy and Cell Biology - Nnamdi Azikiwe University

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka congratulates Jude Amechi Nnaka, a dedicated research assistant in the Department of Anatomy at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi campus, who has been awarded a prestigious PhD scholarship with a cumulative offer exceeding $70,000 annually.

Jude will be pursuing his doctoral studies in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Department of Ophthalmology, Visual, and Anatomical Sciences at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA, starting in August 2024.
In addition, he will be working as a graduate research assistant.

Mr. Nnaka, a 2019 BSc graduate in Anatomy, graduated as the second-best student in his class, distinguished by numerous awards for academic excellence in various courses.

His academic journey is a testament to his unwavering commitment and passion for anatomical sciences. Notably, Jude earned his PhD scholarship directly with his BSc certification, bypassing the need for a master’s degree due to his exemplary academic record and research achievements.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Izuchukwu Azuka Okafor in the Department of Anatomy at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Jude has served as a research assistant since February 1, 2020.

During this period, he has made significant contributions to research, co-authoring approximately 15 original research publications in reputable international journals.
His recent work includes research on “The Influence of Spirituality on Cadaver Dissection, Body and Organ Donation,” which was presented at Anatomy Connected 2024, an American Association of Anatomy conference held in Toronto, Canada. Additionally, Jude contributed to an innovative project on the use and perception of background music during cadaver dissection, presented at the Anatomy Connected 2023 conference in Washington, DC.

Jude’s ability to excel under pressure, his creative problem-solving skills, and his strong team spirit have been key to meeting project deadlines.

His laboratory skills in molecular techniques and microscopy, combined with his outstanding writing and statistical analysis abilities, make him a well-rounded and highly capable researcher. Beyond his academic and research achievements, Jude has shown a deep commitment to community service and leadership.
His volunteer work with the LifePorté Educational Project (co-founded by Dr. Smart Mbagwu and Dr. Izuchukwu Okafor of the Anatomy Department) as a facilitator and data analyst has been instrumental in the project’s success and recognition, including a nomination for the Science Engagement Breakthrough of the Year in Berlin.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Uzozie Ofoego, the current head of the Anatomy Department, for his unwavering support of departmental staff and alumni, which has been pivotal in Jude’s journey.”

“Mr. Nnaka’s remarkable achievements and dedication serve as an inspiration to all students and alumni. We are confident that he will continue to make significant contributions to the field of anatomy and cell biology at Wayne State University and beyond.”

“Please join us in congratulating Jude on this outstanding accomplishment. His success story is a testament to the heights that can be reached with perseverance, dedication, and the right support.”

“We wish Jude all the best in his future endeavors and look forward to the incredible impact he will undoubtedly make in the world of anatomical sciences.”
