Fidelity Bank Uplifts Old People’s Home With Essential Items Donation

Leading financial institution, Fidelity Bank Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility with the donation of food and essential items to the Old People’s Home in Yaba, Lagos.
The donation was made possible through the generosity of the bank’s Nexus Inductees Class, under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative known as the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP).
Through the FHHP, staff across Fidelity Bank branches nationwide identify crucial interventions needed in their immediate community and raise funds to execute them. The bank’s management then matches this contribution with an equal amount and disburses it for the selected project.
Commenting on the donation, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, emphasized the bank’s unwavering commitment to impacting its host communities positively noting that the community is an essential part of the bank success story.
“Today’s donation is a token of our appreciation for our incredible parents and guardians who have raised outstanding individuals that trust us with their banking needs. Our donation to the Old People’s Home reflects our deep commitment to supporting the well-being and dignity of our senior citizens. NLNG : Community Secondary School, Igboh Etche, Emerge Winner Of 2025 Science Quiz Competition

Eight schools reached the climax of the 2025 NLNG Science Quiz Competition on Saturday, showcasing brilliance, speed, and scienti’c prowess in a ‘ercely contested ‘nale, with Community Scondary School, Igboh Etche, emerging victorious over seven other schools to clinch the championship.

 

 

Held in Port Harcourt, the competition drew students from across Rivers State in a bid to crown this year’s top science students under the theme “Renewable Energy Solutions.”After rounds of intense intellectual display, Community Secondary School, Igboh Etche emerged as the winner in the Senior Secondary (SS 2) category.

 

 

Their victory marked the conclusion of a rigorous three-phase contest comprising the Championship, Science Project Exhibition, and Grand Finale.

 

 

The school distinguished itself through accuracy, composure, and a strong grasp of science concepts related to clean energy.In the Science Project Exhibition, Oginigba Comprehensive Secondary School, Oginigba, secured the top position, followed by Bonny National Grammar School (Senior) in second place, and Community Secondary School, Kira Tai, in third place.

 

In the Senior Secondary 1 (SS1) category, the competition concluded at the Championship stage. Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Bori, Khana claimed the top position, while Niger Delta Science School, Obio/Akpor, secured second place, and Government Secondary School, Abua, came third after a closely contested challenge among peers from across Rivers State.

 

 

The remaining ‘nalists in the competition included Government Secondary School, Eneka (4th); Niger Delta Science School, Obio/Akpor (5th), Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Port Harcourt (6th), Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Bori, Khana (7th) and Government Secondary School, Abua (8th).Speaking at the ‘nale, Sophia Horsfall, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, emphasised the company’s commitment to nurturing scienti’c excellence and promoting sustainability.

 

 

“The world is moving fast towards cleaner, greener energy. NLNG is proud to be leading this shift by exporting LNG, a cleaner fossil fuel, and supplying LPG to Nigerian homes. Through this quiz, we are not only investing in education, but inspiring the scientists, engineers, and innovators of tomorrow,” she stated.

 

 

“Science is the heartbeat of progress. That’s why we support platforms like this, where young minds can discover their potential. Since inception, over 200 public schools have bene’tted from this competition, proving that when given the opportunity, our students will shine,” she added.

 

 

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr. Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, represented by Tam Job Inise’ekabo, stated that the theme was both timely and signi’cant.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, OON, (Middle) flanked by participants of a Women’s Roundtable themed, “Mentorship with Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe” hosted by the bank over the weekend at the Fidelity SME Hub, Gbagada, Lagos recently.

 

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, OON, has encouraged women professionals to embrace continuous learning, courage, and collaboration as key habits for achieving long-term career success and breaking through professional barriers.

 

She gave the charge during a Women’s Roundtable hosted by the bank over the weekend at the Fidelity SME Hub in Gbagada, Lagos. Themed “Mentorship with Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe”, the event drew female professionals from various sectors and was held under the Recognition and Networking arm of the bank’s HerFidelity Proposition—a flagship initiative designed to empower women entrepreneurs and professionals across Nigeria.

 

Explaining the vision behind HerFidelity, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe noted that the initiative was born out of a strong need to provide women with holistic support beyond access to finance.

 

“In my engagements with women across different industries, I’ve seen first-hand that while talent and ambition abound, many still lack access to capital, skills development, health support, and networks,” she said.

 

“HerFidelity was created to bridge that gap by focusing on four key pillars: access to capital, capacity building, wellness for work-life balance, and entrepreneurship support. It’s one of the initiatives I’m most proud of, because when women thrive, communities prosper and economies flourish.”

Advising young women aspiring to leadership, she said: “Believe in yourself, be ready to work hard, and never shy away from taking smart risks. Seek out mentors, invest in meaningful relationships, and above all, collaborate—because no one truly succeeds alone.”

 

The event also featured fun competitions and giveaways, with attendees winning exciting gifts courtesy of Fidelity Bank.

 

Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe’s session left participants inspired, reinforcing Fidelity Bank’s position as a champion for gender empowerment and a leading supporter of women’s advancement in business and leadership.

Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has inaugurated the Management Board for the Protection of State-owned Social Homes, reaffirming his government’s commitment to caring for the vulnerable in the state.
The Board, which has the First Lady of the state, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, as the Chairman, and Prof. Christian Anieke, a Reverend Father, as the co-Chairman, equally has Rev. Canon Chibuike Okolo as the Vice Chairman, while the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih represents the Ministry.
Other members of the Board are Rev. Sr. Mary Gloria Iloka, Rev. Sr. Veritas Onyemelukwe, Pastor Elias Anyigbo, Mrs. Anna Igbokwe, and Barr. Chidinma Egeonu, while Barr. Uzoama Okeji is the Executive Secretary of the Board.
Inaugurating the Board at the Government House, Enugu, Governor Mbah said, “Recall that even when we expressed a huge growth projection, we immediately added that we were going to also eradicate poverty, which means that we are always interested in our common humanity. We know that as a people, we are only as good as our weakest link.
“So, we cannot leave the vulnerable in our society out or behind. What we have pledged is an inclusive prosperity, inclusive economic growth and that growth and prosperity should be measured on how we treat those very vulnerable ones in our society. That is why I am so excited that we have the sort of resources, a pool of people with great reputation, experience, and work ethics to serve on this Board.”
The governor assured that the government would make available to them all that is needed to turn the state’s social protection homes around.
“We are committed to making sure that we provide you with all the tools and funds you require to ensure that our people in these social homes live in comfort and dignity,” emphasised.
Also speaking, the wife of the governor, enjoined members of the new Board to hit the ground running, ensuring transparency in the discharge of the Board’s responsibilities.
“I urge you all to be diligent, fair and transparent in discharging your duties. Discharge those duties in compliance with the law and take good care of our children,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Governor Mbah has also granted clemency to eleven inmates of Correctional Centres in Enugu State, a step towards decongesting the correctional facilities and giving the beneficiaries another opportunity to live a better life as members of the society.
The beneficiaries of the clemency as conveyed to the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Victor Udeh, are Ugochukwu Oma, Onah Nnamdi, Chiadikobi Onu, Emmanuel Sambo, Emeka Nyia, and Ngene Oluebube.
Others are Francis Chinecherem, Eze Chigozie, Anthony Tombari, Francis Chibuzor, and Uzoma Nnaoche.
The Governor’s decision was in exercise of his Prerogative of Mercy powers under Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and in consultation with the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.
The decision was also in concordance with reports of proven reform in character, ability to reintegrate with the society having possessed or learnt some productive skills, and following recommendations by the Correctional Services and the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, chaired by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
The Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy also draws membership from the Nigerian Correctional Service, Carmelite Prisoners Interest Organisation (CAPIO), and the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP), among other reputable justice sector institutions.

N50million Ad Fees Essential For Organized Campaign Across Anambra Communities – ANSAA Boss

The Managing Director, Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), Odili Tony Ujubuonu says the
₦50 million fee imposed on political parties for campaign posters and banners ahead of the 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election is essential for coordinating an organized and legally compliant visual campaign across all communities in the state.
Speaking with journalists in Awka, Ujubuonu explained that the ₦50 million fee covers five months of sustained visibility through posters and banners in towns and villages, which would have cost more if billed individually.
“When you calculate the charges we collect from regular citizens and others using the ‘Anyiora’ platform, you will realize politicians are looking to bypass the system.
“This fee is the only campaign cost that goes directly back into the state internally generated revenue (IGR), which funds road construction and essential infrastructure,” he said, adding that official letters notifying candidates of the payment were sent to all major aspirants, including Governor Soludo, even as women and youth aspirants are still under review and were not issued the circular.

African Reinsurance Corporation , UNICEF Sign US$1.5 Million Partnership To Empower Nigerian Youth

African Reinsurance Corporation and UNICEF Sign US$1.5 Million Partnership to Empower Nigerian Youth through Climate Change Education and Green Skills UNICEF and African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) has signed a landmark agreement to support climate change education and green skills development for children and young people in Nigeria.
The signing ceremony took place at Africa Re’s headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Under the agreement, the African Reinsurance Corporation will contribute US$1.5 million over a five-year period to UNICEF to strengthen climate change education and empower young people to take action in their communities and access employment opportunities in the green economy.
“This partnership with Africa Re reflects our shared commitment to building a more climate-resilient future for children and young people,” said Cristian Munduate, UNICEF Representative in Nigeria. “By supporting climate change education, we are giving young people the tools to protect themselves, lead action in their communities, and contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable Nigeria.”
The collaboration will enable UNICEF to expand access to climate-resilient education and digital learning platforms like the Nigeria Learning Passport and Youth Marketplace Agency (YOMA), train teachers, equip schools, and support youth-led climate initiatives.
The programme will particularly target vulnerable children and young people in states most at risk from climate-related shocks.
Speaking at the signing ceremony on behalf of Dr Corneille Karekezi, Group Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of Africa Re, who was unavoidably absent, Mr Kiiza Bichetero, Deputy Managing Director / Chief Operating Officer Elect,  stated: “Africa Re is very proud to be associated with this noble initiative of the United Nations Children’s Fund namely, supporting the empowerment of the youth through Climate Change Education and Green Skills. This partnership with Africa Re will provide the knowledge and skills needed by children and adolescents to respond to the climate crisis and contribute to implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation solutions in Nigeria”.

IHS Nigeria , UNICEF Partner To Deliver Emergency Support To Flood-Affected Communities In Niger State

In response to the devastating floods that struck Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) in Niger State, IHS Nigeria, part of the IHS Holding Limited (NYSE: IHS) (“IHS Towers”) group, and UNICEF have joined forces to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance to affected communities.
On May 29, 2025, torrential rains triggered flash floods across five communities: Tiffin Maza, Ungwan Hausawa, Yagbagba, Ndayeko, and Wubegi—resulting in one of Niger State’s worst humanitarian crises in recent memory.
The disaster claimed over 153 lives, left hundreds injured and displaced, and wiped out over 10,000 hectares of farmland in this critical agricultural region.
Among those most affected are more than 1,600 children and nearly 800 pregnant and lactating women now living in precarious conditions. Over 500 people are reported to be missing.
In continued support of humanitarian relief efforts, IHS Nigeria has pledged an emergency grant to support UNICEF’s rapid response in Mokwa.
This includes the construction of three solar-powered motorized boreholes, ventilated improved pit latrines, and the renovation and solarization of a damaged primary healthcare center to restore access to clean water, sanitation, and essential health services.
“This emergency support from IHS Nigeria comes at a critical time when thousands of children and families are facing enormous hardship,” said Cristian Munduate, UNICEF Representative in Nigeria. “Our longstanding partnership with IHS Nigeria has always prioritized reaching the most vulnerable communities. Together, we have made strides in strengthening primary healthcare systems, education, and child protection. Today’s renewed collaboration ensures that the children of Mokwa are not left behind.”
As the Global Cluster Lead for WASH, Nutrition, Education, and Child Protection, UNICEF has rapidly deployed integrated life-saving interventions across the affected communities.
These include the provision of clean drinking water, emergency sanitation facilities, health services, therapeutic nutrition for children, psychosocial support, and the establishment of temporary learning and child-friendly spaces.
Through this joint response, more than 30,000 displaced people and community members are expected to benefit from access to safe water, improved sanitation and better primary healthcare services, while children will regain access to education and critical child protection services.

 Olympic bronze medalist, Mary Onyeali and former General Manger of Rangers International Football Club as well as current Chief Operating Officer of Nigeria Professional Football League, Davidson Owumi, were among the big names in the nation’s sports industry on parade as the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah inaugurated the Local Organising Committee, LOC, for the 2026 National Sports Festival to be hosted by the state.
Other members of the LOC, which has the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barr. Lloyd Ekweremadu, as the Chairman, are Bamiduro Olumide, a seasoned sports management professional and recently retired Director of Elite Athletes Development, National Sports Commission; Aku Aghazu, a skilled lawyer with expertise in sports management; a representative of Nilayo Sports Management; and Chief Operating Officer of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Blessing Ekwe.
Also, on the Committee are the Director of Organising, Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports; Director of Coaching in the Ministry, Ephraim Ochomma; Obiora Obasi, also of the state Ministry; Chairman of Enugu State Football Association Tony Ugwu; and President, Modern Pentathlon Federation of Nigeria, Jonathan Nnaji.
Inaugurating the LOC in his office, Mbah, said the state was not just determined to host the NSF, but to also give the nation’s sports industry and sports lovers an unforgettable experience.
Mbah said the government was deliberate in the choice of members, assembling experienced persons from around the country to ensure that Enugu lived up to expectation.
“We want to set the standard because we are Enugu. I am happy that the membership of the LOC is quite rich. It comprises people with great experience in sport administration, and frankly speaking, their reputations precede them. Therefore, we are glad to have this pool of resources to be members of the LOC,” he said.
Mbah added that the state would also leverage its experience hosting the 2009 Under 17 FIFA World Cup and the recent Enugu City International Marathon, noting that his administration was already taking steps to ensure that the sports infrastructure for the NSF were brought to world standard.
“We have started taking steps at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. We are going to do an extensive revamp. It is going to take a new look. You are not going to recognise the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium because we will bring it to almost a brand new stadium.
“We are also identifying other sporting centers that are not there, such as the aquatic centre. They are going to be there. We are also doing a fit-for-purpose games village known as the Agwu Games Village. We are building new structures there.
“We are indeed poised to give Nigerians and the world at large a world class sporting festival,” Governor Mbah concluded.
Listing the terms of reference of the LOC, he said the Committee would, among other things “be responsible for the successful conduct of the festival; be responsible for the planning and execution of the festival to ensure that the event is organised with the relevant regulations guiding the games.”
The Committee is also to set up relevant subcommittees as it deemed fit and in accordance with the Festival’s regulations and be responsible for coordinating the activities of the various Sub-Committees; and ensure the availability of the games village that will accommodate all the accredited athletes and officials.
Responding, LOC Chairman, Ekweremadu, thanked the governor for considering them fit for the job, assuring that the Committee would work to give the participants the best experience as directed, but also ensure that Enugu State hosts to win.
“The members of the local organising committee are very mindful of Your Excellency’s vision to execute a world-class National Sports Festival, which will set a benchmark for sports festival in Nigeria moving forward. We are determined to win and to make you and the people of the state proud,” he added.
The Chairman equally used the opportunity of the inauguration to present to the governor the flag for the NSF as passed on to Enugu State by Ogun State at the just concluded 22nd edition in the South West state.
