Ogun state commences 3 day African Drums festival

The African Drums Festival is underway in Abeokuta , the Ogun state capital, coming from the success of last year’s National drums festival.

The festival organised by the State government is to promote unity and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the African continent.

Countries at this year’s event include Togo, Ghana, Benin Republic, Congo Brazaville among others.

The host country, Nigeria is being represented by 12 states and many private troupes.

Good will messages were presented by Ooni of Ife, Alaafin of Oyo, Governor of Bayelsa and representative of the minister of information and culture among others where the hosting of the drums festival by the Ogun state government was commended.

The minister represented by the artistic Director National Troupe, Comrade Ta Uko described drum as a very important aspect of African culture.

He described the concept of drum festival as brilliant.

The minister said the festival will promote pan African unity and tourism capable of improving the economy.

Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka in his remark said the drums festival was another first scored by Ogun state noting that Afro beats started also from the state.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun commended the organisers for putting the event together.

Said the essence of drums cannot be over emphasized noting that the festival would add value to the economic growth in line with the federal government diversification efforts.

The 3 days festival is to enhance peace building and development of young talents in Africa.
