Nigeria on  Saturday pounded debutants Kenya 4-0 in their Cameroon 2016 Group B  last game  to win the group and set up a semifinal showdown with South Africa, who massacred Egypt  5-0 in their Group A last fixture to place second behind hosts Cameroon in the group.

South Africa, who have yet to win the tournament since its inception in Abeokuta in 1998,  have met  seven-time  champions Nigeria  on 21 occasions with  the Falcons  winning 14  times. Bayana won three times‚ while both sides settled for draws in four encounters. The Falcons  beat  their Southern African rivals  2-0 to win their  second consecutive title in Boksburg, Southern Africa, in 2000.

After firing blanks in their first two group games, Bayana regain their scoring touch by pummeling Egypt in Yaounde.

Slovakia-based  forward  Mgcoyi says   Bayana will look  to continue their good  scoring form in their  clash  against  Nigeria.

“It was a relief for us to score five against Egypt and secure our place in the semifinals,”  Mgcoyi, who scored one and created two assists in the fixture, was quoted by Johannesburg Sunday World as saying.

“Our problem was scoring; now I’m confident that we are going to do this more often.”

The 28-year says they are aware that victory won’t come easy against Nigeria but maintains the Falcons are beatable.

“They are a good team, but we are ready for them. Personally, I have faced them three times and the matches have been close,” Mgcoyi said.

South Africa coach Desiree Ellis also declared Bayana’s readiness for the game, urging her charges to be clinical in front of goal.

“We have focused a lot on composure in front of goals, and working a lot on giving communication when going in on the goal… because we felt players were very rushed, we always knew that when players are composed on the ball in front of goal they will score and hopefully going forward we will be a little bit more,” Ellis told South African Broadcasting Corporation.

But Nigeria coach Florence Omagbemi waved off the threat,  reiterating the Falcons would  win the title  for the eighth time.

“Our goal is to defend our title of African champion. We will correct our mistakes before facing South Africa,” the former Nigeria captain, who won the tournament in 1998, 1998, 2000 and 2002, said.
