Witnesses present at the scene attested that the officer who holds the position of an Inspector in the police ranking had requested for a tip from the driver who in turn gave a negligible amount. This led to an argument between the driver and the police officer who then opened fire on the driver as he was returning back to his vehicle.

The bullet went through the driver’s abdomen and exited through his back, killing him instantly before fracturing the conductor’s leg who was then rushed immediately to a hospital close by.

This event led to the fencing off of the road with barricades by the protesting public who were later joined by drivers who were incensed over the death of one of their colleagues.

DSP Bala Elkana, the public relations officer of the command when contacted, affirmed that the accused officer had been arrested and placed in detention. He further stated that the police CP, Inspector Zubairu had demanded for a thorough investigation of the case and that the police officer would be tried in the police orderly room.

However, he pleaded with members of the public to remain placid as investigations were still ongoing stating that it had been awhile since such an incidence had happened ever since a directive was given to withhold ammunitions from junior officers who drink on the job.
