Nigeria has signed the document for the Safe schools initiative, showing the country’s commitment to what is contained in the guidelines for the programme.

Ascwas published in VON, Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu disclosed this to Journalists at the end of this week’s cabinet meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Nigeria has now signed the safe schools declaration, we have been a member and there have been a number of activities on that platform but now formally it means we are committed to implementing what is in the safe schools guidelines,” he said.

The Safe Schools Initiative has been launched around the world, backed by research and support from Theirworld, A World at School movement and The Global Business Coalition for Education.

The Minister also announced that the Federal Executive Council approved the sum of N613 million for the construction of a faculty at the Adamawa State University, North-East of the country.

“We awarded a contract for the construction of a faculty in Adamawa State University at the cost of N613, 395, 615. The decision was in tune with the federal government’s programme of coming to the aid of States or areas affected by conflict,” he said.
